About Bill
Bill Hill is Dena’ina Athabascan, a husband, father of four, and grandfather to seven. He and his wife, Diane, now live in Naknek, Alaska, just southwest of the village where he grew up, Kokhanok, on Iliamna Lake. Every chance he can, Bill professes his love for Alaska, and those who built it.
As a child, he ran dogs, subsistence hunted, and setnetted with his family. He later joined his father on their drift boat and has continued commercial fishing in Bristol Bay for 45 summers now.
In addition to commercial fishing, Bill has worked union construction jobs across rural Alaska, and spent nearly 25 years as an educator. He taught in Juneau and Naknek, served as principal of Igiugig School, and then as superintendent of the Bristol Bay Borough School District for ten years. In 2023, he was named Alaska’s Superintendent of the Year.
Bill and his wife Diane started a company called Bristol Bay Brailer, which supplies custom-made brailers (the bag that sits in the hold and gets filled with fish) to sell to the local fishing fleet, rather than sourcing them from Outside.
Bill’s Platform
Bill decided to run for Congress after noticing billionaires and special interests continuing to succeed while working Alaskans suffer under high costs of living, corruption in D.C., and government overreach. Here’s what Bill wants to get done in Washington:
Lower the Cost of Living
Bill will work to lower costs for:
- Gas and groceries by opposing tariffs that drive up prices.
- Healthcare by expanding Medicaid coverage, extending federal healthcare subsidies, and capping prescription drug prices.
- Housing, by bringing on new projects.
- Energy, by restoring tax credits to bring new renewable projects online.
Unrig the System
Billionaires and big corporations have rigged our system in their favor. Bill will support:
- A full ban on stock trading by members of congress and their spouses, who made over $600 million buying and selling stocks in 2025.
- Taxing the 1%, providing tax relief to small businesses and the middle class, and closing tax loopholes so that working class Alaskans no longer pay a higher tax rate than big corporations.
Defend Alaskans
Bill has spent time in cities like Anchorage and Juneau, as well as smaller villages around rural Alaska. He knows the issues that matter to Alaskans.
- Fisheries: Bill promises to take on wasteful bycatch and to defend subsistence rights, while balancing fairness for all user groups.
- Public safety: Bill promises to champion policies that ensure safety of our officers and responders.
- Mental health and addiction treatment: Bill will usher federal dollars to repair Alaska’s mental health and addiction treatment services. And end the flow of fentanyl into our country through many avenues including a strong, secure border.
Invest in Our Future
As an educator, Bill understands how schools enable a better life for our children. His platform includes:
- Funding schools and protecting local control
- More vocational training programs
- Alaska jobs, through worker protection, clean energy opportunities, the “Right to Repair,” and more.
